Bible Verses
Christ is Coming Again!
Let us be diligent then to Obey Him
Before I was afflicted I went astray;
but now I keep thy word.
Thou art good and doest good;
teach me thy statutes.
It is good for me that I was afflicted,
that I might learn thy statutes.
I know, O LORD, that thy judgments are right,
and that in faithfulness thou hast afflicted me.
Let thy steadfast love be ready to comfort me
according to thy promise to thy servant.
Psalm 119:67,68,71,75,76 RSV
______________
See, I have refined you,
though not as silver;
I have tested you in
the furnace of affliction.
Isaiah 48:10 NIV
______________
And if they are bound in fetters,
And are caught in the cords of affliction,
Then He declares to them their work
And their transgressions, that they
have magnified themselves. He opens their ear to instruction,
And
commands
that they return from evil.
Job 36:8-10 NASB

There was a fire one night at a convent and several
retired nuns who lived on the fourth floor were trapped
by the fire. They were praying for the Lord to show them
a way out of the fire when one of the sisters screamed,
"We need to take off our robes, tie them together and
climb down to safety." Later as they were recounting the
event to reporters, they were asked if they were afraid
of the crude rope breaking.
"Oh, no," they said. "You see, old habits are hard to break."
Light Dawns in Darkness
DB Reading: Psalm 76; 82; 84; 90; 92; 112; 115
"Praise the Lord. Blessed is the man who fears the Lord, who finds great delight in his commands.... Even in darkness light dawns
for the upright, for the gracious and compassionate and righteous man. Good will come to him who is generous and lends freely, who
conducts his affairs with justice.... He will have no fear of bad news; his heart is steadfast, trusting in the Lord" (Ps 112:1,4-5,7).
"O
Lord
Almighty, blessed is the man who trusts in you" (Ps 84:12).
Just as I am sure that the sun will rise each morning, Lord, make me confident that you will break through each dark night with
a ray of hope and bring the dawn of a new day (Ps 112:4; Hosea 6:3). As I delight in your word, which "is a lamp to my feet
and
a light for my path" (Ps 119:105), let me reflect your grace and compassion to others until your light also cuts through their
darkness and illumines their way. Develop goodness, generosity and integrity in me as I strive to live a life that honors you and
blesses others. May your "constant care" of me "make a deep impression on all who see it" (Ps 112:6 LB). May I see it too, and
be
deeply impacted by it! As I shape my worries into prayers, let the awareness of your loving care settle securely on my mind
and
flood me with your peace (Philip 4:6-7). Make my heart steady and secure, unafraid of what the future may hold because I
am
trusting in you (Ps 112:7-8; 84:12). Nestled safely in your strong, gentle hands – "O Lord Almighty," God of the universe,
lover of my
soul - why should I fear?

In our congregation's shepherding program, one family is designated the neighborhood "shepherd."
This family invites ten other nearby church families into their home for a get-acquainted meeting.
One shepherd was jubilant when all ten of her invitees expressed interest in attending. However, on
the day of the event, only two families came. Afterward, she commented ruefully, "I started out feeling
like the Good Shepherd, but wound up feeling like Little Bo Peep."

One SONG can spark a moment |

This piece really struck home. On Thursday my wife had two stents
placed in a coranary artery that was 70% blocked. She is doing fine.
________________________________________________________
Recently I was reading about the human heart. The article explained that the human heart beats about 70 times a minute
except during the first 10 years of life when a person's heartbeat averages nearer 100 beats per minute. This would make
the average heartbeat over an average lifetime nearer 74 beats per minute.
Just reflect on this calculation for a moment; if your resting heart beats approximately 4,440 beats per hour that amounts to
106,560 beats per day, which in turn amounts to 38,894,400 beats per year, which amounts to a final total of 2,917,080,000
beats in a lifespan of 75 years.
Also, think about this-- in an average lifetime, the heart beats more than two and a half billion times, without ever pausing to
rest. That's really quite phenomenal. From the moment it begins beating until the moment it stops, the human heart works
tirelessly. Like a pumping machine, the heart provides the power needed for life. When one stops and considers the miraculous
workings of this life-sustaining organ, can one ever doubt the existence of an Almighty God?
There is no doubt either that what the Lord giveth, He can take away... in a heartbeat. One minute a mother is driving down
the street on her way to pick up her child from school when out of nowhere a truck runs a red-light and plows into the side of
her car... in a heartbeat, the child is without a mother. On a convoy mission in a war zone a 19 year-old soldier's Humvee is
struck by a roadside bomb... in a heartbeat, a mother has lost her dearly beloved son. A father of four is flying on a business
trip when his plane crashes into the side of a mountain... in a heartbeat, his family is without a father and a provider.
As a casual observer of life in general... many things seem to happen without rhyme or reason... and happen... in a heartbeat.
One minute God is in His heaven and all is right with the world... and in a heartbeat, everything changes and our own little world
is turned upside down. One minute we are here... alive and well... and in a heartbeat our brief time on earth is over. Lord, keep
reminding us that our heartbeats, as well as our days, are numbered and that our life on earth is fleeing away... and if we only
believe, we will be joining Thee in heaven... in a heartbeat.
Heartbeat from Heaven
We are living on the border
Of eternity each day
We are just as close to heaven
As the stars on the Milky Way
And the only thing between us
Whether we are big or small
Is a tender little heartbeat
Just a heartbeat, that is all
There's a place beyond the river
Where we'll lay our burdens down
Where we'll meet our friends and loved ones
And we'll wear a starry crown
All our trouble will be over
And no tears will never fall
Just a heartbeat from heaven
Just a heartbeat that is all
A heartbeat from heaven
Just a heartbeat nothing more
Just a tender little heartbeat
Till we walk the Golden Shore
Keep your lamp oil trimmed and burning
Let it shine you'll never fall
Just a heartbeat from heaven
Just a heartbeat that is all
